Even in high-fantasy worlds filled with griffins, guilds, and glowing crystals, someone still has to shovel manure, maintain bridges, and figure out what to do with chamber pots.
This got me thinking. I already know I have worldbuilders disease, and this did NOT help! 🤣
So, I'm taking the proverbial leap down the rabbit hole and into a mound of... Well your guess is as good as mine.
Q: What would magical societies in your world do with waste products?
I'd have to assume it would be cleaned up fairly quickly, either magically or manually.
Magically would be dependent on the era, the cost, and how much magic was available.
Having a small cost, to 'spend a penny', or having excess magic, might make it easy to dispose of. A magical flush of sorts.
However, If magic had a physical cost, or magic was limited, or sparse then society might not just magic it away.
They might even have to implement protocols for where, when, and how waste was *deposited*.
It might not even be waste at all, if it was useful, and could be used for heating, building, or power?
Would local towns utilise B-i-g holes in the ground, that could be hovered or squated over.
City potty-portals, could be created to drop waste through to specific piles or places.
If Terry Pratchett were in charge, there would be a horse and cart, two old codgers shouting 'bring out your poop', carrying large flat shovels, and grumbling coz of their bad backs.
And, talking of large... Imagine the size of dragon dung... Especially if it landed on top of you!
A few piles for thought?
Q: If magic is a part of someone/somethings physical makeup, would their poop contain magical properties?
Q: In which case, it'd be a high commodity. Targeted by thieves and poo-preneurs who'd sell it on the brown market.
Q. What if someone deposited their dung on top of a ley line? The portals didn't open, or poopstops were built at places of high energy.
Could that cause explosive, or random affects and effects.
Interesting article - not an area of worldbuilding that I normally consider. I think I might have a story idea from reading this - thank you for posting!
We do have to consider that these things often pass unnoticed. It is desirable that they pass unnoticed. Even those who work on one part don't want to know about another, because that will mean something went wrong.
