The photo in your post makes me think of Excalibur, which is not typically the first fantasy film that leaps to mind for me, but it is probably the best Arthurian movie to date, despite it's somewhat dated gaudiness. LOTR (the trilogy, not the Hobbit movies) stands head-and-shoulders above anything else, of course, for the way it honors its source material and yet managed to produce something with mass-appeal and gravitas at the same time. The Last Unicorn, Willow and The Princess Bride are up there for me, too, for different reasons, but mainly because of when they came out in relation to my own development as a writer and consumer of fantasy.

I love Jackson's (& company) LOTR trilogy. Even after all these years later, I still think those movies set the bar for all the fantasy movies to come after.

Legend, even though it's kind of an incoherent mess at times. And did we even need Jack? But Lily, Darkness, and Oona are all the magic and wonder the movie needs to enchant my heart.
