A rare, first-edition copy of J.R.R Tolkien’s masterpiece, The Hobbit was discovered in a thrift store in Dundee, Scotland.
It sold on eBay for $13,055.98!
Another first edition previously sold at auction in 2021 for $77,305
All purchases (both online and in the store) raise funds for cancer research.
First published in 1937, The Hobbit has never been out of print, but first editions are hard to come by due to their age and the small first-run printing of only 1500 copies. They included black and white illustrations drawn by Tolkien himself.
You might remember that the book has spawned many films, the most notable was directed by Peter Jackson and was one of a multiple-movie series.
I can’t imagine coming across such a special book and not buying it, can you?
