Weβre familiar with common archetypes in fantasy fiction - the Hero, the Mentor, the Villain, the Sidekick, the Chosen One, the Anti-Hero, and the Dark Lord, among others. There are uncommon archetypes too that are becoming a little more familiar in modern fantasy - the Caretaker (Mrs. Weasley), the Reluctant Hero (Aragorn), the Scholar, the Guardian (Hagrid), and many more too numerous to get into today. Thatβs a lengthy discussion for another day.
What I find fascinating are the uncommon archetypes in mythology.
The Trickster (Coyote from Native American mythology), the Broken Hero (Oedipus from Greek mythology), the Prophetic Outcast (Cassandra from Greek mythology)
If you were to identify with the archetypes in fiction or mythology, which would it be?
